   The night-session match lasted 3 hours 18 minutes, 90 minutes shorter than the quarter-final of 2006 in which Kiefer defeated Grosjean 8-6 in the fifth set too, with similar number of games (in the German-French duel fewer total points were played))! Crucial progress of the ’99 meeting:
   – in the 1st set Kucera [11] squandered a break point leading 4:2 (40/30)
   – in the 2nd set Lapentti [91] withstood five break points at 1:2 when fireworks were bothering both players (Australian Day, January 26th)
   and he led 5:3*
   – in the 5th set, the Ecuadorian led *5:3, then saved a mini-match point at 5-all… he didn’t try at all when he trailed 0:3* in the 4th set
   Kucera suffered a defeat quite similar to the one experienced a few months earlier as he lost to Agassi in Munich.
