Points won by each set: | 51-51, 31-24, 35-28, 34-22 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
23 % Rios – 29 of 121
18 % Berasategui – 28 of 155
Four years after sensational advancement to the French Open final, Berasategui shocked the tennis world once again defeating in back-to-back matches Patrick Rafter & Andre Agassi. In his second & last major quarterfinal, the 25-year-old Basque played an interesting match vs Rios (2:33 h). In the opening set Berasategui wasted a set point on serve at 5:4, then saved three set points trailing 5:6. Both short players (173 cm) tried to wear down each other with punishing baseline rallies. Rios dealt better with running all over the place, but he needed a treatment to his legs in the 4th set, in which despite lopsided 6-0, all six games were balanced & could have gone either way.
