The last Australian Open semifinal played between the serve-and-volley players (3rd set under the floodlights)… Becker’s [4] advantage was overwhelming from the beginning of the match: he broke at 1-all & Woodforde escaped from 0/40 & twice 0/30 in his another three service games. In the 2nd set Becker led *3:0 when Woodforde [67] got ten points in a row – Becker held at ’30’ to win the final nine games finishing the contest with two powerful aces. For the 30-year-old Woodforde it was the first (and only) appearance in the Grand Slam semifinals in singles.
