Night session, 3 hours 51 minutes, finished long after midnight – the first meeting between Nadal [2] and Murray [16]. Each of the first four sets could have gone either way: Murray firmly saved a set point at *5:6 in the opener and double mini-set point at 4-all in the 3rd set (trailed 1:3) while Nadal came back from *1:4 (0/15) in the 2nd set and saved five break points in the 4th set at 1:2, including 0/40; the Scot had the biggest chance on the fifth break point when a 26-stroke rally occurred, concluded with his casual mistake. Very important match in Murray’s development. He showed a big variety of strokes & complex tactical solutions in his first Grand Slam match at the highest level, he got a valuable lesson that he needed to work more on his physical preparation (lost nine straight games from 3:2 in the 4th set) – after the loss he was 3-4 in five-setters, then he won 9 out of 10 becoming one of the best specialist in five-setters.
