Points won by each set: | 28-30, 25-36, 35-29, 28-22 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
27 % Baghdatis – 34 of 125
37 % Roddick – 40 of 108
The 20-year-old Baghdatis [54] began his second ATP season with second consecutive Aussie Open fourth round. In 2005 he lost to Federer on Rod Laver Arena, in 2006 he was supposed to lose to Roddick [3] on the same court (indoors, extreme heat policy). The Cypriot had other ideas and he exposed Roddick’s weakness from the back of the court. The American hadn’t chance in the vast majority of longer rallies, but he could lead 2-1 in sets anyway, in the 3rd set he wasted break points in Baghdatis’ three service games in a row. The decisive break of the 4th set came at 2-all. Before the last set, Roddick changed the colour of his polo shirt (from white to black) and wore a visor of his baseball cap backwards.
