Points won by each set: [ 33-23, 29-16, 36-27 ]
Points won directly on serve:
37 % Rafter – 26 of 69
25 % Becker – 24 of 95
Becker’s last match in his pro-career. He was expected to lose, but rather no-one could imagine it’d be such a beat-down. Becker [77] had his arguments – in two previous matches he had easily defeated young & upcoming players (Kiefer & Hewitt), he also had won his two previous matches against Rafter…. And he led 3:1* after a game in which he committed three double faults. Then it turned into his disaster, two things mainly contributed: his poor serving (11 double faults in the first two sets) and Rafter’s backhand which was working above his standards. It’s quite strange looking at the scoreline that the Australian [2] lost his serve once in each set.
