   First European pair to win Wimbledon in the Open Era and the first one since 1958 as the Swedes (Sven Davidson & Ulf Schmidt) triumphed.

   Both pairs contested also semifinals the same day (interrupted by rain the other day)… Gunthardt finished the championships with an ace down the T on deuce-court. Broken players:

   En route to the title the Swiss-Hungarian duo (seeded No. 8) defeated:
   1 Glickstein / Wilkison 6-7(7), 6-4, 6-3, 6-4

   3 V.Amritraj / Lloyd 6-4, 6-0, 6-4
   Q Annacone / Van Rensburg 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, 6-7(4), 24-22

   W Cash / Fitzgerald 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3
   The final set of the quarterfinals was the longest in terms of games at the time. That record will be broken 22 years later.
