   The last final between two guys with mustaches 😉 It lasted 2 hours 50 minutes. One break of serve was decisive in the last two sets. In the 4th set there was 3-all when Smith wasted a double game point to lose three consecutive games. Newcombe defended his title winning the final in five sets again. His third (last) Wimbledon title in total, the first one he claimed in the pre-Open Era (1967 vs Wilhelm Bungert in the final). Newcombe skips another two editions of the event due to different reasons and his streak of 19 matches won in succession is surprisingly snapped in the ’74 quarterfinal by the 40-year-old Ken Rosewall whom Newcombe had destroyed before overcoming Smith in 1971.
