Points won by each set: | 32-27, 26-34, 26-14, 43-43 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
38 % Berdych – 48 of 124
36 % Federer – 44 of 121
A big upset on Centre Court – Federer [2] didn’t advance to the Wimbledon final for the first time since 2003! The most shocking was the 3rd set, they played 26 times against each other (it was their match no. 11) and only in that Wimbledon quarterfinal Berdych [13] was able to win a set with a two-break advantage – he was playing out of his mind, because to his standard solid game (big serve, fast ground-strokes) he added an amazing stop-volley & two subtle dropshots – he used to play only one shot of this kind per match, then occurred three of them within a set! In the 4th set a little confused Federer led 3:2 (40/0) when Berdych escaped with a bunch of well-placed serves. In the last dramatic game, Berdych was a few centimeters to convert his first match point with an ace down the T, then facing a break point he delivered a conservative second serve, but Federer fearfully responded and netted his FH return.
