  1. Voo de Mar says:
Points won directly behind the serve:
    39 % Youzhny – 15 of 38
    21 % Beck – 13 of 61

The meeting between two 22-year-old players. Beck [53] of Slovakia reached his first and last ATP final. He was suspended for two years (2006-07) as he tested positive for clenbuterol and never regained his status of a regular ATP player of years 2004-05, nonetheless he managed to come back to the Top 100 in 2009 for a short period of time…
Youzhny [31] played a perfect match emphasized with a great finish: in the last ‘love’ game served two service winners & two aces. “A final is never easy,” said the Muscovite, “It’s true, I did break him early in the first set, but in the second he was leading 1:0 and had 0/30 on my serve. It could have been a whole lot tougher if I had lost that game.”
“It was a very tough day for me. Mikhail played unbelievable tennis and I tried to play too riskily and made a lot of mistakes. Going into the final I knew that Mikhail would be the favorite and I was giving myself about 40-60 percent chance of winning,” said Beck.

Youzhny’s route to his 2nd title:
    1 Andy Ram 2-6, 7-6(3), 7-6(4)
    2 Max Mirnyi 7-5, 3-6, 6-2
    Q Julien Benneteau 6-0, 6-1
    S Greg Rusedski 3-6, 6-3, 6-4
    W Karol Beck 6-2, 6-2

Youzhny barely escaped in the first round being four points away from defeat in both tie-breaks against Ram [393], who led *3:1 in the second tie-break to lose five straight points. The match lasted 2 hours 38 minutes; if Ram had won it, it’d have been his biggest singles scalp (finished career with 4-11 at the main-level).
