  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: [ 34-21, 30-19 ]
    Points won directly behind the serve:
    43 % Becker – 26 of 60
    20 % Lendl – 9 of 44

    Quite shocking scoreline – 15th match between them and the first one so one-sided. Lendl [1] didn’t play badly, simply from 4:2* in the 1st set Becker [2] increased his level, showing perfect tennis to the end. It was a very prestigious meeting because counting from the end of the 1988 season, Becker was winning more important events than Lendl, yet the ranking didn’t reflect it. “He was serving and volleying many times. I don’t understand why he did it,” Becker said. “But it felt very good to have won like that.” It was Becker’s fifth straight win over Lendl… their another meeting at Queens Club had similarly surprising progress, yet the reversal outcome.

    Becker’s route to his 26th title:
    1 Broderick Dyke 7-6(2), 6-4
    2 Alexander Volkov 6-4, 3-6, 6-3
    Q Miloslav Mecir 6-4, 6-2
    S Jonas Svensson 7-5, 6-2
    W Ivan Lendl 6-2, 6-2

    Becker snapped Lendl’s 21-match winning streak. Lendl was playing third week in a row almost day-by-day;
    he had collected titles in Milan and Toronto (defeated Mayotte in both finals)
