  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: [ 28-26, 39-42, 30-19 ]
Points won directly behind the serve:
    26 % Hewitt – 25 of 94
    21 % Kafelnikov – 19 of 90

Advancement to the first big final of the 19-year-old Hewitt [8]. His run to it was impressive, he defeated in back-to-back matches only elite players of the 90s: Krajicek, Henman, Rusedski & Kafelnikov (already for the 4th time). In the very short 1st set, Hewitt broke in the 5th game. He trailed *0:3 (0/30) and 4:5 (15/40) in the 2nd set to be three points away from victory in the tie-break at 4-all – then the net-cord helped the Russian [5], and he won the breaker 7/5. There was 3-all in the 3rd set when the young Australian grabbed three consecutive games ending the contest with an ace down the middle… Both players began the semifinal having won 58 matches in that season.
