4 % Rochus – 3 of 63
In the course of years 2009/2010 Baghdatis enjoyed the best period in his career, at least as far matches/titles are concerned. He lost a tough encounter to the great Nadal 4-6 6-3 4-6 in Beijing ’09, and it boosted his confidence: won 17 out of his next 18 matches, including three titles (Tashkent – Challenger; Stockholm & Sydney – ATP). Claiming the Swedish title it was generally a piece of cake, however, he got a walkover from the main favorite Soderling in the semis. In the final, the 24-year-old Cypriot [66] defeated 17 cm shorter Rochus [87] trailing 2:4* in the 2nd set. “It’s a great feeling and I’m so happy. It’s been a long while since I’ve won a tournament, especially an ATP tournament.” said Baghdatis, “Last year was really hard for me, so it’s great to have this win today. I don’t really know what to say right now, I’m just happy. I wish it continues.”
