  1. Voo de Mar says:
They faced each other in ten meetings. Edberg won them all, their two longest matches occurred in the ATP finals (both indoors: hard & carpet respectively) #

    Points won by each set: | 42-37, 28-16, 29-36, 37-33 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    36 % Edberg – 48 of 131
    23 % Svensson – 30 of 127

Both Swedes were 21-years-old at the time. In the 3rd set Edberg [2] had a break point leading 2:0 – from that game Svensson [29] considerably increased the speed of his serves & began to play much more aggressively. There was one break of serve in the 4th set – in the opening game as Edberg broke in a 7-deuce game. In the last game Svensson saved a triple match point on return with three winners! Edberg notched his 12th straight victory.

Edberg’s route to his 15th title:
    2 Richey Reneberg 6-7(6), 6-0, 6-2
    3 Ulf Stenlund 7-6(4), 6-3
    Q Peter Lundgren 6-1, 7-6(4)
    S Anders Jarryd 6-4, 6-2
    W Jonas Svensson 7-5, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4

    ==========================================================

    Points won by each set: [ 33-17, 32-37, 44-37, 24-17 ]
    Points won directly on serve:
    29 % Edberg – 34 of 116
    23 % Svensson – 29 of 125

Edberg [1] began it losing the opening two games, then he almost won seven in a row. In the crucial 3rd set, Svensson [13] was serving at 5:4, but played very bad game losing it at 15. Thanks to that final (and the Copenhagen title a few weeks later) Svensson advanced to the Top 10 at the age of 25. It was the peak of Svensson’s career, Stuttgart-indoor the biggest of his 14 finals. He was unable to win three matches in a row until his last event of the season (Paris), in 1992 he was experiencing more defeats than wins.

Edberg’s route to his 28th title:
    1 Markus Zoecke 6-4, 7-6(6)
    2 Omar Camporese 6-3, 7-6(5)
    Q Magnus Gustafsson 6-2, 6-3
    S Jan Siemerink 6-4, 6-4
    W Jonas Svensson 6-2, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2

    # Comparison of their two 4-set finals:
    Stockholm 1987 (hard): Edberg d. Svensson 7-5, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4… 2 hours 51 minutes… Total points 136-122… 7:4 breaks…
    Stuttgart 1991 (carpet): Edberg d. Svensson 6-2, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2… 2 hours 33 minutes… Total points 133-108… 8:4 breaks…
