Djokovic [3] is the best in the world again, albeit not ranking-wise… for now. After winning big events in Cincinnati & US Open, he claimed his third straight harcdourt title not losing even a service game (saved SP vs Anderson with an 8-stroke rally) to extend his streak of winning sets to 26! Coric [19], playing his first final at Masters 1K level, needed to work very hard to avoid a beat-down (in the 2nd set he saved 4 BPs at 0:2 – 7 deuces; was 1:3 (15/30) and came back from 0/40 trailing 3:5 thanks to a BH lob on the line on match point number one). “It’s phenomenal. I’m very proud of it,” Djokovic said about his 4th title in Shanghai. “Obviously the last three, four months have been terrific for me. Not many holes in the game in general, especially this week. Everything worked perfectly.”
Djokovic’s route to his 72nd title (32nd ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown):
2 Jeremy Chardy 6-3, 7-5
3 Marco Cecchinato 6-4, 6-0
Q Kevin Anderson 7-6(1), 6-3
S Alexander Zverev 6-2, 6-1
W Borna Coric 6-3, 6-4
