   Untypical twist; usually when a better player wins a tight set, the worse one is discouraged in the following set. Something completely opposite happened in that semifinal, Connors grabbed a long 3rd set trailing 3:5 and saving six set points in the progress, so as he had a break point at 1:0 in the 4th set it seemed like a potential 6-2 or 6-1 set; Gerulaitis took five games then! In the decider Gerulaitis already led 3:0 with two breaks, but needed two deuces and five match points to close the match out with an ace.
