  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 32-19, 29-15, 40-39, 41-31 |
    Points won directly on serve:
    12 % Borg – 13 of 108
    15 % Pecci – 22 of 138

Pecci [29], the best Paraguayan in history, became an unexpected finalist, but fully deserved (he had defeated Vilas & Connors in back-to-back matches). Borg [2] already led 5:2* (15/0) in the 3rd set, also 4:2 in the tie-break, Pecci led 4:3* in the 4th. There was a two-minute break in the 6th game of the 3rd set because someone fainted in the stands. “I thought I had the match in my hand at 5:2 in the third. But then he started playing better, taking more chances, and I missed a few passing shots. Suddenly it was 5-all,” said Borg, the first man since Henri Cochet (1926-28-30-32) to win the world’s premier clay court title four times.

Borg’s route to his 45th title:
    1 Tomas Smid 6-1, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4
    2 Tom Gullikson 6-3, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4
    3 Raymond Moore 6-3, 6-1, 6-0
    4 Gilles Moretton 7-5, 6-4, 6-2
    Q Hans Gildemeister 6-4, 6-1, 7-5
    S Vitas Gerulaitis 6-2, 6-1, 6-0
    W Victor Pecci 6-3, 6-1, 6-7(6), 6-4
