Finally! Their 44th meeting and a record breaking 13th at majors (Djokovic & Federer had played 12 times against each other at the time). Their 7th mutual meeting on Philippe Chatrier court (which is a Grand Slam record too), fourth within four years, and for the first time in Paris the Serb left the court as a winner, snapping Nadal’s 39-match winning streak at Roland Garros… Djokovic stormed to a *4:0 (30-all) lead but Nadal levelled. The Serb stayed cool though, and converted his sixth set point (he’d never lost a set with a 4-game advantage). There was no break of serve in the initial phase of the 2nd set, but Djokovic took control from 3-all, breaking Nadal four times to win 9 out of the 10 final games. Nadal committed a double fault on the first match point… Nadal’s defeat was somewhat expected from the beginning of the tournament because for the first time in his career, he opened the event not winning a title on clay before (lost four matches, to Djokovic, Fognini, Murray & Wawrinka) that season.
