  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 52-50, 43-41 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    22 % Agassi – 19 of 86
    39 % Sampras – 39 of 100

The Agassi-Sampras rivalry spanned over thirteen years. That Parisian quarterfinal began the best period in their rivalry which almost lasted a non-calendar year, when they both were at the top of their games, and seven consecutive matches between them were exciting between the first and the last point… Sampras [1] had a few game points to lead 5:2, then he led 4:1* and 5:4 in the tie-break before losing it 6/8 after the longest rally of the match (his backhand error on 28th stroke). In the 2nd set he led 3:1* (deuce), but lost the break advantage again. Agassi [7] needed five match points in two different games to close out the contest (Sampras saved MPs with two aces, smash & BH volley). He finally missed his first serve trying to save the fifth MP, and Agassi advanced to the semifinal with a powerful forehand return.
