  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: [ 51-48, 30-31, 40-35 ]
Points won directly behind the serve:
    21 % Kohlschreiber – 23 of 109
    23 % Thiem – 30 of 126

Kohlschreiber [27] did in that final something he had done many times in the past – that he doesn’t dwell on wasted chances. He needed 8 set points in the 1st set (three at *5:4, two at *6:5 and another two in the tie-break) and 3 match points in the decider (Thiem [15] came back from 4:5, 15/40 with the help of strong serves). There was 4-all in the deciding tie-break when the German got three points in a row, playing two very good forehands to convert his third match point with a backhand volley played on an empty court. Prior to that final, Kohlschreiber had lost five straight deciding set tie-breaks, including a 6-7, 7-5, 6-7 loss in the final of this event a year before.

Kohlschreiber’s route to his 7th title:
    2 Florian Mayer 6-3, 6-2
    Q Juan Martin del Potro 6-4, 6-1
    S Fabio Fognini 6-1, 6-4
    W Dominic Thiem 7-6(7), 4-6, 7-6(4)
