The 28-year-old Steeb [107] came to Moscow having lost six matches in a row, and in the first round he found himself – on a couple of occasions – a few points from losing to his compatriot Sinner [48]… In the 3rd set of the final vs Vacek [35], Steeb was two points away from defeat in three different games. The 24-year-old Vacek – a specialist of fast surfaces – lost all his five ATP finals, then in Russia he was the closest to get a title (in the semifinal he stunned his doubles partner at the time and main favorite for the title – Kafelnikov). After the 1st set vs Steeb, the Czech player won 21 points in a row on serve!
