22 % Djokovic – 24 of 106
Murray snaps 8-match losing streak to Djokovic with a 3-hour victory. The Scot hadn’t beaten the Serb since their Wimbledon final 2013… In the opening set Murray raced to a 4:1* (40/15) lead, then at 4-all he saved a break point with a forehand winner. They took a toilet break before the 3rd set that lasted 7 minutes. Murray held his serve for a 4:1 lead after 10 deuces (saved six break points) and converted his fifth match point saving another two break points in the final game. “To win this one was nice, especially the way the match went as well,” Murray said. “It would have been easy for me to let that one slip away. But I fought well and stayed calm in the important moments of the third set. I think I did come up and play aggressively when I needed to. Especially in the third set when I was breakpoints down, I finished a couple of points at the net, got some free points on my first serve, as well. I would say the margins were so fine… I felt like I played as aggressively as I could today. That helped.”
Murray’s route to his 35th title (third Canadian Open)
2 Tommy Robredo 6-4, 7-5
3 Gilles Muller 6-3, 6-2
Q Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-4, 6-4
S Kei Nishikori 6-3, 6-0
W Novak Djokovic 6-4, 4-6, 6-3
