  1. Voo de Mar says:
Points won directly behind the serve:
    25 % Sanguinetti – 28 of 111
    28 % Federer – 28 of 97

The Italian [87] captured his first title at the age of 29 in his eighth year on the tour (116th main-level tournament). He trailed *1:4 (30-all) in the 1st set. The 3rd set was more balanced than the scoreline could suggest – Sanguinetti saved a break point in the opening game and five break points leading 3:1. For Federer [13] it was the first tournament as a defending champion. The maiden champion said: “After Australia I talked to my coach and he told me I needed to find the real Davide inside me and I needed to do it myself. Coming to play here in Italy puts a little more pressure on me but that was not a problem. But playing in Italy changed something – I was more sure of myself inside and felt on equal terms with my opponents.”

Sanguinetti’s route to the maiden title:
    1 Christian Vinck 7-5, 3-6, 7-5
    2 Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-2, 6-4
    Q Younes El Aynaoui 7-6(4), 7-6(2)
    S Nicolas Escude 3-6, 6-3, 6-2
    W Roger Federer 7-6(2), 4-6, 6-1

    # The Italian trailed 2:4* in the 3rd set against Vinck, and was a break down in the 2nd set vs Escude.
