Points won by each set: [ 34-27, 32-20 ]
Points won directly behind the serve:
42 % Simon – 22 of 52
29 % Zverev – 18 of 61
Despite a big ranking difference [41 vs 155] Simon wasn’t a clear favorite because he had easily lost two previous matches to Zverev (both in 2009). Moreover, in 2010 the Frenchman expected becoming a father – due to that he wasn’t entirely focused on tennis. The event in Metz marked his first one as the father, perhaps it gave him additional boost of energy because in the final he played a perfect match serving better than ever – hit three aces in five points of the opening game of the 2nd set (all wide on deuce court). The 23-year-old German participated in his first ATP final, his younger brother Sascha was watching the match in the stands.
Simon’s route to his 7th title:
1 Dustin Brown 6-3, 6-4
2 Igor Sijsling 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-3
Q Xavier Malisse 7-5, 4-6, 6-1
S Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-3, 6-2
W Mischa Zverev 6-3, 6-2
