    Nieminen [145] retired at the age of 34, playing his last main-level event in Stockholm – there he debuted, there he played the most finals (three, losing them all). Today against a tricky ‘lucky loser’ Almagro [73], the Finn had two match points in the 2nd set tie-break – on first MP there was a long baseline rally & Jarkko played a decisive forehand down the line, he even thought for a second that he won the match, but the ball was a few centimetres too long. On second MP, Nieminen’s BH return hit the net-cord and stayed on his side… Almagro won 3-6 7-6(6) 6-4 improving his 10-year-old H2H vs Nieminen to 5:1.
