  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: [ 32-27, 28-16 ]
Points won directly behind the serve:
    42 % Fish – 21 of 50
    24 % Federer – 13 of 53

Total shocker, this scoreline was expected the other way around. Federer hadn’t any problems to beat Fish in their five previous meetings, moreover the American [98] entered the semifinal after two matches he won in deciding 3rd set tie-breaks (Hewitt, Nalbandian), so tiredness could have been expected from him, especially that the Swiss advanced to the last four without breaking a sweat. One of the most shocking things about that match it is Fish’s first service percentage, just 34%! But his second serves were aggressive throughout, and Federer [1] missed many of them with his returns. Fish already led 5:1* (40/15) in the 2nd set when Federer hit an ace with the tinniest of margins. “We all know how good Mardy can be,” Federer said. It seems to me on that day Fish was striking forehands way above his standards. He had the right mindset to be aggressive with all his strokes and everything clicked.

    Serve & volley: Fish 0, Federer 0/1
