  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: [ 36-41, 45-42, 42-37 ]
    Points won directly on serve:
    25 % Stich – 30 of 116
    18 % Sanchez – 24 of 127

One of the tightest semifinals in the Masters 1K history, which lasted 2 hours 40 minutes, marked by a beautiful serve-and-volley display by Stich [11]. The German was three points away from defeat serving at 5:6 in the 2nd set. In the decider he led 5:4* (30/0) & 6:5 (40/0), but stayed cool & collected after wasting chances to convert his fifth match point with a service winner. The both tie-breaks he won easily: 7/3 & 7/2. For the ageing Sanchez [31], one of the best clay-courters at the turn of 80s & 90s, it was the last big result; he had beaten Edberg & Krajicek preceding the Stich loss.
