   Typical clay-court match between two Spaniards in the 90s, conducted on a pattern: the serve is just an invitation to a long baseline-grunting rally with plenty of topspin off both sides… Mantilla was two points away from victory serving at 5:4 (30-all) – lost the next nine games, at 5-all Clavet withstood five break points. Mantilla was suffering cramps from the 3rd game of the 3rd set to the end of the semifinal. Clavet lost the final 3-6, 5-7 to Alex Corretja, leading in both sets – 3:1* & 5:2* respectively.
