Quite bizarre, ugly encounter in windy conditions: the first two sets were concluded in the tie-breaks, but the third turned into a bagel, however, the point difference was almost the same like in the opener (!) – Lopez won all the games by a two-point advantage, four of them went to ‘deuce’. “This match was really special, because it’s great to be in the finals and it’s an opportunity to win another ATP event. Today in these conditions it’s tough to get any feedback from the match, to be honest.” said Lopez [39], who will beat Simon [17] a few days later 6-2, 6-4, 7-6(11) in the Wimbledon first round. # Six years later they play another grass-court final against each other, and Lopez prevails again after they trade tie-breaks in a different configuration.
Lopez’s route to his 3rd title:
1 Jarkko Nieminen 7-6(3), 7-6(5)
2 Juan Monaco 6-4, 6-4
Q Fernando Verdasco 6-4, 7-6(6)
S Ivan Dodig 7-6(3), 6-1
W Gilles Simon 7-6(2), 6-7(5), 6-0
