Nishikori [244] – one of the best players of the 10s, claimed his maiden title in the preceding decade. It was a time when people were talking about Donald Young, but the young American was losing his all ATP matches, meanwhile other teenager who found his way to ATP events – Nishikori – shocked the tennis world in Delray Beach, especially in the final when he faced the top-seed local favorite. Blake [12] was completely outplayed for a set and a half. He saved three break points at 2:4, but couldn’t come back. The 18-year-old Japanese served out the title without any problems winning his third match of the week in the deciding set – it’ll be his domain in the decade to come. “Last night I couldn’t imagine. I tried to imagine winning the final, but I couldn’t do it,” said Nishikori, whose parents watched the match on an Internet feed. “I was so nervous in the first set.”

Nishikori’s route to his maiden title (6th main-level event):
    [ Todero 6-2, 6-3; Witten 6-4, 6-4; Bogomolov Jr. 6-2, 7-5 ]
    1 Florian Mayer 6-0, 4-3 ret.
    2 Amer Delic 6-7(7), 6-4, 6-2
    Q Bobby Reynolds 6-2, 6-4
    S Sam Querrey 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(7) – 4 m.p.
    W James Blake 3-6, 6-1, 6-4
