  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 28-30, 36-27, 29-24 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    40 % Federer – 31 of 77
    22 % Ginepri – 22 of 97

Very interesting match in retrospect because Federer [1] had an aura of invincibility then while Ginepri [58] was playing tennis of his life in the second part of 2005, and he was just two games away from victory in two different sets (7 points in the 2nd, 8 points in the 3rd) to make a huge upset. The fact there was 5-all in the mid-set it was already a shocker because Federer’s previous 0-2 defeat it was Miami ’04 (Nadal beat him 6-3, 6-3). Ginperi had a double game point to play a tie-break, but the Swiss hit two forehand winners then. What Ginepri couldn’t have done in Cincy ’05, Murray did in the following year on the same court (7-5, 6-4), so for more than two years no-one defeated the Swiss in two straight sets. # Federer & Ginepri play on Centre Court in Cincy again three years later, in the second round, and Ginepri is even closer to win in straight sets as he serves at 6:5 in the 2nd set, but loses in three sets, suffering stomach problems in the decider (3 points away in the 2nd set tie-break).

    Serve & volley: Federer 2/3, Ginepri 0

    # Comparison of their two Cincy meetings:
    2005 (SF): Federer d. Ginepri 4-6, 7-5, 6-4… 1 hours 48 minutes… Total points: 98-81
    2008 (2R): Federer d. Ginepri 6-7, 7-6, 6-0… 2 hours 13 minutes… Total points: 124-100
