Points won by each set: | 46-42, 35-30 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
32 % Dolgopolov – 24 of 75
32 % Nishikori – 25 of 78
Unexpected outcome because Dolgopolov [66] arrived to Buenos Aires in a poor form (lost 9 of 10 preceding matches) and he had never won a set against Nishikori [5] in five meetings. Perhaps the Ukrainian changed his strategy trying to play with bigger risk from the baseline and it paid off. “I feel very good,” said Dolgopolov after semifinal win over Carreno to whom lost a quarterfinal match the following week in Rio de Janeiro. “It’s really nice to be in a final again because because I had a couple tough years.”
Dolgopolov’s route to his 3rd title:
1 Janko Tipsarevic 6-3, 6-3
2 Pablo Cuevas 6-3, 7-6(4)
Q Gerald Melzer 7-5, 6-4
S Pablo Carreno 7-5, 6-2
W Kei Nishikori 7-6(4), 6-4
