  1. Voo de Mar says:
Points won directly behind the serve:
    20 % Muster – 14 of 70
    15 % Larsson – 15 of 100

Both guys were delivering tennis of their lives at the time. The lopsided scoreline was surprising then, not so much today with knowledge of Muster’s further unbelievable successes on clay (after the big title in Barcelona he won bigger back-to-back titles on clay: Monte Carlo-Rome-French Open). Even though Larsson [12] had won their three previous meetings (including two in 1995), Muster [17] was a dominant figure from start to finish of the 1-hour 34-minute encounter. Perhaps the Austrian enjoyed his career-best match as far as his offensive attitude is concerned: he played from the air during 14 rallies, winning them all with 13 winners!

Muster’s route to his 26th title:
    1 Jordi Burillo 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-2 – 1 m.p.
    2 Andrei Cherkasov 6-3, 6-2
    3 Javier Sanchez 7-6(5), 6-4
    Q Carlos Costa 6-3, 3-6, 7-5
    S Yevgeny Kafelnikov 6-3, 6-3
    W Magnus Larsson 6-2, 6-1, 6-4

    # Muster trailed 3:5* in the 3rd set vs Costa
