Points won by each set: | 27-13, 31-17 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
22 % Gasquet – 9 of 40
10 % Simon – 5 of 48
An all-French final at the Thailand Open disappointed. Gasquet [14] had pretty easily won all his previous 5 main-level meetings against two years older compatriot [19], and confirmed his superiority once again in their only final meeting, after just 68 minutes. “I played against a French player who is also my friend so of course it a little bit strange but for me it’s a title and I’ve had some tough matches this week so I’m very happy to win,” said the 26-year-old Gasquet. Actually, with that title, it began the best twelve months in Gasquet’s career – he collected 4 titles in the meantime & reached the US Open semifinal.
Gasquet’s route to his 7th title:
2 Grigor Dimitrov 5-7, 7-5, 6-4
Q Bernard Tomic 7-6(5), 6-4
S Jarkko Nieminen 3-6, 7-5, 6-2
W Gilles Simon 6-2, 6-1
# Gasquet, not-known for his fighting spirit, survived two matches in dramatic circumstances: trailed *2:5 in 2nd set vs Dimitrov, and *0:4 (30-all) in 2nd set vs Nieminen, winning both matches being two points away from defeat!
