  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 31-25, 39-30, 32-17 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    36 % Enqvist – 30 of 82
    23 % Lapentti – 22 of 92

[21] Enqvist created break points in 3 out of 5 Lapentti’s service games in the opener and broke him twice. The Swede led 4:1* in the 2nd set, and 5:4* (40/15) before the man from Ecuador levelled using all his trickery. # Lapentti [91] ran out of gas, but his route to that match was one of the toughest at majors prior to the semifinal (more by scores than the duration). The 22-year-old Ecuadorian had played 24 of 25 possible sets winning four three-hour matches against higher-ranked opponents being at least two games away from defeat!

    # Here’s Lapentti’s epic route:
    1 T.Johansson 6-3, 3-6, 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-0… 3 hours (2 m.p.)
    2 M.Norman 7-6(4), 3-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4… 3 hours 30 minutes
    3 Tillstrom 4-6, 7-6(9), 2-6, 6-4, 6-2… 3 hours 10 minutes
    4 Ilie 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2
    Q Kucera 7-6(4), 6-7(6), 6-2, 0-6, 8-6… 3 hours 18 minutes

Lapentti also advanced to the quarter-finals in doubles but withdrew due to exhaustion after the Kucera match.
Counting singles & doubles he spent 19 hours on courts at the Melbourne Park before his meeting with Enqvist.
