    Points won by each set: | 42-33, 39-28, 31-20 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    28 % Federer – 24 of 83
    35 % Haas – 39 of 110

Untypical match at Wimbledon’s second week of the 00s (counting since 2002 to be precise) given the offensive attitude of both players. Each of them took advantage of his opponent one-handed backhand to attack the net on a regular basis either directly behind the serve or following forehand approach-shots (a few chip-and-charge attacks too). The scoreline progress was mirroring their fourth round clash at Roland Garros a month before – Haas led in Paris 7-6, 7-5, 4:3* (40/30), so when Federer wasted a double break point while leading 7-6, 7-5, 4:3 in London (Haas had a game point and delivered a good first serve), it looked like an ideal scenario for the German to win the semifinal in a dramatic style being a copy of his recent loss. Nothing like this happened though, Federer [2] converted his fourth mini-match point and closed the contest with a slum-dunk smash. Haas [34] was on a 10-match winning streak, having defeated Djokovic twice. # His fourth and last major semifinal, at age 31. “I thought Tommy was on a great run,” Federer said, “I couldn’t even get close to breaking him for almost two sets.” Haas didn’t play ‘deuce’ even once in Federer’s 17 service games (10 held at ‘love’).

    Serve & volley: Federer 8/9, Haas 6/13

    # Players with the most Slam semifinals not reaching the final:

    6 – Henman (1998-2004)
    4 – Haas (1999-2009), Davydenko (2005-07)

Each of these three players lost his last semifinal against Federer…
