  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 32-17, 32-21, 47-48 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    28 % Federer – 26 of 91
    22 % Grosjean – 24 of 106

Grosjean [13] advanced to his fourth and last Grand Slam semifinal in an awesome form not dropping a set, but it didn’t impress Federer [1], who was just entering an extraordinary period in his career, being invincible almost over three years (until March ’07). The Swiss broke twice in each of the first two sets and his straight sets victory seemed inevitable, however, at 4:3* for him in the 3rd set the rain forced the players to leave the court for a night. After the resumption the things got a bit complicated – Federer had two match points at 5:4 (both evaporated quickly), but Grosjean broke for a 6:5 lead – he didn’t capitalise though. Nevertheless in the tie-break the Frenchman had his big opportunity again leading *4:0; Federer levelled, and converted his fourth match point to clinch the tie-break 8/6 obtaining the last two points attacking the net (volley & overhead winners).

    # Comparison of Grosjean’s back-to-back Wimbledon semifinals:
    2003: Philippoussis d. Grosjean 7-6, 6-3, 6-3… 1 hour 56 minutes… Total points: 96-78… Breaks: 3-0
    2004: Federer d. Grosjean 6-2, 6-3, 7-6… 2 hours 1 minute… Total points: 111-86… Breaks: 5-1
