  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 26-16, 29-28, 33-26 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    35 % Federer – 30 of 84
    31 % Henman – 23 of 74

If they had faced each other in the US Open ’03 semifinal, it could have been remembered as the last serve-and-volley US Open match so deep in the tournament draw. Federer [1] was a new player in 2004 though, he was attacking the net only as an element of surprise. The 7 year-old Henman [6] was still playing in a way which was out of date in the mid 00s. His route to the semifinal was very demanding (dropped 8 sets), and he had no chance, he was already 5:1 down in the 3rd set. Henman’s sixth and last major semifinal (infamous record holder). That semifinal meant his ‘swan song’ at the highest level in tennis. In the following three years of his career, he was unable to even reach the fourth round at Slams.

    Serve & volley: Federer 1/3, Henman 6/17
