   One year after they met in the Barcelona final (Robredo won 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3), they had an opportunity to play another final against each other – this time Gaudio – the reigning French Open champion – was better. He raced to a 5:0* lead in the 3rd set of this lopsided encounter. “It’s great to win another title so close to Roland Garros,” said the South American winner. “It’s great for the confidence. Tommy and I have always played very tough matches.” Robredo celebrated his 23rd birthday that day.
