  1. Voo de Mar says:
Stats of the first three sets (aces, double faults, break points valid throughout)

    Points won by each set: | 51-49, 23-33, 24-10, X |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    28 % Woodbridge – 30 of 107
    22 % Kiefer – 19 of 83

Court no. 2 and a great opportunity for both players; neither of them played a major quarterfinal before, however, for 26-year-old Woodbridge [37] it seemed like a chance which wouldn’t repeat while the six years younger Kiefer [98] belonged to the most gifted teenagers at the time, people expected great things for him to come… he needed to wait another seven years to finally reach his lone semifinal though. Woodbriodge was playing the entire match in the serve-and-volleys style while Kiefer was applying this strategy occasionally, nonetheless his mindset on serve was very offensive. In the tie-break the Australian led 6:3* before converting his fifth set point (at 7-all Kiefer dived in vain). Kiefer broke in games 2 and 8 of the 2nd set, but in the 3rd set his performance rather abysmal. It was soon revealed that he was struggling with right shoulder pain. After the trainer’s visit he snapped a 7-game losing streak, and the match was balanced again. Kiefer squandered break points in two games, and Woodbridge advanced to the semifinal after 2 hours 42 minutes.
