   Lapentti [41] played four semifinals in Masters 1K events losing them all; twice on clay (Hamburg ’99 & Rome ’01). Ferrero [9] was establishing himself as a clay-court specialist in Spring ’01, a potential multiple French Open champion. The first ~20 minutes were played in difficult conditions – a helicopter was flying over the Foro Italico making noise. It started to rain when Ferrero created his first match point – Lapentti double faulted.
