   In 1989 they both lost their status of Top 20 players due to injuries which sidelined them for several months (Muster didn’t play between March & September, Leconte between April & September). They came back on the tour in the same event (Barcelona ’89) and faced each other in the third round – Muster won it 6-2, 6-2; he defeated Leconte again with similar scoreline seven months later: in the Monte Carlo semifinal, Muster [30] was super efficient with his passing-shots & lobs (three lobs to break for a 5:2 lead in the opener). Leconte, thanks to ‘wild cards’, played the first two clay-court events of a new series (Mercedes Super 9) – he advanced to the semifinals, and it helped him to jump from no. 152 to 37! Their H2H was finished with Leconte’s 5-4.
