The first mixed-doubles stat-pic on my website. I’ve decided to do this due to 2 reasons:
– “Hopman Cup ’91” it’s the first tennis team competition I’ve seen in my life
– this year (2023) made its inception the United Cup gathering male & female players together in teams, and this new event has been reflected in the ATP and WTA rankings, so it shows the former ‘Hopman Cup’ held in Perth (in the years 1989-2019) in a different light
Actually throughout the 90s, despite the exhibition status, it was seriously treated by players, no joking around which especially featured the last editions of the 10s. In the deciding mixed-doubles of a tie between the United States and Switzerland, Hlasek and his Bulgarian partner who married a Swiss (Fragnière) in 1987, led 4:1* (30/15) in the opener when lost a point they should have won. It turned the tables, the last two games of the match were the longest, 4 and 3 deuces respectively. Hlasek lost his serve once, Maleeva thrice. The following year, Switzerland claimed the Cup in the same team.
