  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 39-33, 32-33, 27-24, 29-16 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    22 % Muster – 27 of 119
    18 % Rios – 21 of 114

It was a time when Muster [2] had an aura of being unbeatable on clay, therefore a set won by the 21-year-old Chilean could be perceived as his good result. Rios [16] led with a break in the opener, in the 2nd set he saved two mini-set points at 4-all. The 3rd set was decided at 1-all when Muster broke, and afterwards he was focused on holding his serve. In the 4th set the Austrian broke at 1-all again, but in that set he notched a six-game winning streak. Much more impressive Muster’s title in retrospect, en route to it he defeated three young players (Corretja, Moya, Rios) who would advance to no. 2 (Corretja) and no. 1 at the end of the 90s.

Muster’s route to his 38th title:
    2 Alex Corretja 6-1, 6-3
    3 Bohdan Ulihrach 6-4, 7-5
    Q Francisco Roig 6-1, 6-1
    S Carlos Moya 4-6, 6-2, 6-4
    W Marcelo Rios 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1

    Serve & volley: Muster 0, Rios 2/5
