[1] Borg led 4:1* in the 3rd set, then squandered four set points at 5:4 – in that game McEnroe stayed on the baseline behind the serve for the only time in the final (he did it after five deuces, won the game after six). The 25-year-old Borg lost his first match at Wimbledon after 41 consecutive wins & never appeared again the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, as a player. ”The match was very close,” Borg said after the match. ”It was important for me to win the third set. When I had four set points, on the important points, when he had to win them, he hit his first serve in.”
