   The second best Slam in [27] Gottfried’s career following the French Open ’77 final. The match was quite open until [1] Borg led *3:2 (15/30) in the 3rd set. He fired an ace then which Gottfried questioned, and somehow from that moment on, only Borg was winning games (nine in total) even though the American of Jewish origin was playing more or less at the level as before that point. The last meeting between these two players (Borg won their H2H 9-2). That semifinal it was a twilight of Gottfried’s career, at age 28.
