  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 39-28, 33-25, 25-30, 29-20 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    21 % Agassi – 24 of 112
    18 % Muster – 22 of 117

Highly anticipated match since the tournament inception because they both were playing tennis of their lives in the years 1995-96, and Muster [2] wanted badly to prove that he wasn’t a typical clay-courter – to win a major on hardcourt it was his objective, but he was stopped by the best guys on that surface: Agassi in New York, and Sampras in Melbourne a few months later. The Agassi-Muster quarterfinal had a sensational beginning: five deuces in the opening game, five deuces in the following game too, then Agassi [9] dominated his opponent thanks to better ground-strokes (especially backhand side). He already led *5:3 in the 2nd set and *2:0 in the 3rd set. At the beginning of the 4th set (first game) it started to rain a bit – Agassi took his hat off during the 6-minute break, and played his best tennis afterwards. Muster admitted after that match: “I’m not able to constantly hit the ball standing inside the court like Agassi, it makes a difference between us on hardcourts.” Two years before on the same court, also in the quarterfinals during night session, Agassi outplayed Muster easier.

    Serve & volley: Agassi 0, Muster 1/3
