  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 31-23, 26-22, 39-34 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    24 % Sinner – 21 of 85
    27 % Fritz – 25 of 90

Sinner [1] won the toss and chose to receive. It was a good decision because the nervous Fritz [12] – playing his first major final – lost his serve quickly. The American improved from *0:2 to 3:2, but another five games went to the favorite, who was controlling the rest of the final. Actually nothing interesting happened in the first nine games of the 2nd set, then Sinner broke again, and the party was basically over. Fritz had nothing to lose at two-set deficit against a better player so he gave his all, and Sinner helped a bit chasing a lob at 3-all (15-all) – he lost the point and suffered the oxygen debt; as usually in those situations, he couldn’t generate the required energy and Fritz broke him. The underdog led 5:3, but Sinner was able to establish his supremacy in baseline rallies again thanks to his better defence, and collected four straight games convincingly… Fritz is super solid, but his tennis is one-dimensional, Sinner didn’t need to do anything special in this final, he played his lone volley winner at 3-all in the last set. Sinner commented: “I love tennis, I practise a lot for these kind of stages, but off the court there is a life. I would like to dedicate this title to my aunt who is really not feeling well health wise. I don’t know how much I’ll still have her in my life. It’s so nice I can still share a positive moment with her.” Two 21st Century boys, Sinner & Alcaraz, each of them won two majors this year. Sinner has gathered more points in ATP events, and it puts him in a great position to finish the season as No. 1 for the first time in his career.

Sinner’s route to his 16th title:
    1 Mackenzie McDonald 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2
    2 Alex Michelsen 6-4, 6-0, 6-2
    3 Christopher O’Connell 6-1, 6-4, 6-2
    4 Tommy Paul 7-6(3), 7-6(5), 6-1
    Q Daniil Medvedev 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4
    S Jack Draper 7-5, 7-6(3), 6-2
    W Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5

    Serve & volley: Sinner 0/1, Fritz 0

Sinner had begun the event poorly, trailing 2-6, 0:1 to McDonald on return; broke back after 7 deuces, and to the last point of the event he was playing his normal tennis which means the best on the planet (currently) from the baseline in basic exchanges. Before the US Open ’24 it was revealed that Sinner had received an anti-doping sanction, his money and points from the Indian Wells tournament in March were deducted, due to testing positive for Clostebol, a banned anabolic steroid.
