  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 26-13, 25-9 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    8 % Connors – 3 of 37
    2 % Chesnokov – 1 of 36

One of the shortest finals of the 80s, and the 36-year-old Connors [9] finally won his first title on the French soil at the end of his career. Chesnokov [17] used to play patiently from the baseline, but Connors imposed his aggressive game-style, moving the Soviet player all over the baseline. It was cat and mouse play, Chesnokov was discouraged, and didn’t try to change anything in his style; he lost the last eight games, having a point to win only one of them. “He played too good for me today. Jimmy every game played better and better,” said Chesnokov. “I think he plays like a young boy, he runs like a young boy.” In 1989 they face each other again on the same court, that time Connors loses the opener before winning in three.

Connors’ route to his 107th title:
    1 Christian Saceanu 6-4, 6-3
    2 Eduardo Masso 4-6, 6-4, 6-3
    Q Michiel Schapers 6-2, 6-4
    S Jakob Hlasek 5-7, 7-6(2), 6-3
    W Andrey Chesnokov 6-2, 6-0

    Serve & volley: Connors 2/3, Chesnokov 0
