  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 38-35, 55-55, 15-26, 25-19 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    45 % Krajicek – 59 of 130
    35 % Becker – 49 of 138

The first meeting of two best servers at the time, along with Sampras, Ivanisevic & Stich (Becker gave Krajicek a walkover a year before in the Stuttgart semifinal), so the final – as expected – was dominated by powerful serves and spectators witnessed only a few baseline rallies (after Becker’s second serves). Krajicek [32] led 5:4* (40/0) in the opener and 6:3* in the tie-break before converting his sixth set point with an ace. In the 2nd set he already led 3:1* (40/15), but Becker [7] broke back to create a triple set point at 6:5 – Krajicek fend it off with two aces & a service winner. Becker’s fourth set point in that game – another Krajicek’s ace. In the second tie-break the Dutchman saved the fifth set point (6:7) with a service winner and converted his second chance with a backhand passing-shot which landed on the line. After the first four games of the 3rd set another tie-break seemed inevitable, but Krajicek lost his service rhythm. He rediscovered it in the 4th set – actually he was serving like a machine, fired 11 of his 34 aces in that set, finishing the event with his last two. He got the decisive break at 2:1 thanks to a bunch of backhand passing-shots. Ultimately their rivalry was concluded at 4-4 (6:3 for Krajicek in tie-breaks).

Krajicek’s route to his 7th title:
    1 Richard Fromberg 7-6(5), 6-3
    2 Brett Steven 7-5, 6-3
    Q Jeff Tarango 6-1, 7-5
    S Patrick Rafter 6-1, 7-6(3)
    W Boris Becker 7-6(5), 7-6(7), 2-6, 6-3
